Tips for Using Your Pitcher 

Alkaline water pitchers work best once they are moistened and if you don’t overuse them at any given time. Here are additional tricks that you can use to get the best water out of your alkaline pitcher:

• If the filter is dry (i.e., if this is your first pouring of the day), we suggest pouring a cup or two of water through to wet the filter and then wait 30 minutes. The cup or two is drinkable but probably not ionized. You can do what you want with that: drink it, waste it, use it to water plants.
• Moistening the filter softens the outer layer of magnesium so it can be released in the right proportions.
• Filter the water fully, through and out of the bin, before using it.
• Once the filter is moist, just use it frequently throughout the day.
• For best results, filter about a quart at a time.
• You can control the pH of your output water by filtering more or less than a quart.  
• If you want to supply ionized water to several people, we suggest you use two filters alternately or buy a couple of pitchers. 

How the Filter Works

The filter ionizes by adding magnesium in the presence of magnetized ceramics. The magnesium balls are time-release, and only the outer coating softens to allow magnesium to be released a little at a time. If the filter is used moderately, approximately 1 liter per hour or two, it performs best. When used a lot, the ionization drops off because there isn't enough free or softened magnesium. 

If the filter dries out, the first pouring will be less ionized. However, it will be back to peak performance and deliver great alkaline drinking water in about 30 minutes.

When and How to Test Your Water

I suggest that you periodically test the water you produce with your pitcher to make sure it's ionizing properly. Use professional, scientific  pH reagent drops. These are not the same drops sold for testing pool water.

Collect a small sample of the water you want to test (i.e., a shot-glass). Then put a drop or two of reagent into the sample and match to the color on the chart.

When to Replace the Filter

Storing the Pitcher

If you're not using the PH pitcher for days, weeks, or months, then let it dry out and store it in a dry place. To dry the filter out, set it, unsealed, in the refrigerator for a few days. Once dry, remove it from the fridge and store it in a dry place. 

Cleaning the Water Pitcher

Never put your alkaline pitcher in the dishwasher. Just wash it by hand when you think it's needed. If it doesn't seem to come clean, because of a white film that won't come off, that's because of hard-water. A hard-water film requires a special process to remove.

Alkaline water pitchers will naturally develop a white film over time. This is due to the calcium, or hardness, which is naturally in your water and is healthy for you. Here's how to remove the film and make your pitcher look like-new again.

Use either straight vinegar or dilute the vinegar 1:1 with water. Fill the pitcher up to whatever level you want and let it soak for 20 minutes. This process loosens the layer of calcium, so it will now quickly rinse away.
